Position description
We are seeking a full-time staff member to join our team as a Sustainability Intern for 1 year that is passionate about climate action, resilience, and community-led climate solutions. This position will support project team member to advance client work across a broad range of projects. This role will require skills in GIS and mapping, project coordination, research, and meeting and workshop facilitation. Additionally, this role required the ability to work well with a diversity of people, including Indigenous Peoples, and be able to build strong relationships with Pinna team members, collaborators, and clients. The interns will also be able to demonstrate an ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deliverables, while knowing when to ask for support.
The main location of work will be a home office, while in-person working days with colleagues and/or clients will also be expected. We hope to retain a new employee who is interested in learning and growing with us over time, and who can see a future for themselves contributing to and over time leading projects and contributing to a diversity of strategic sustainability projects with Pinna team members and collaborators.
This position will include but not be limited to the following activities:
● Carry out consulting work as defined by client contracts, under the guidance of a manager.
● Manage tasks under the direction of a project manager
● Maintain positive team and client relationships
● Work with the team to ensure high quality deliverables on time and budget.
● Conduct research and analysis to inform recommendations for clients.
● Prepare well-written, clear, concise reports for clients.
● Conduct consultation and engagement with indigenous and non-indigenous interest holders.
● Support workshops and in-person meetings as a co-facilitator and/or lead facilitator.
● Work remotely with other Pinna staff to collaborate and meet client expectations.
● Be accountable for your time by tracking how time is spent and checking in regularly with manager(s) to ensure time is spent wisely.
● Other tasks and duties as required.
Preferred skills
We are looking for a candidate with multiple skill sets, including:
● Familiarity with ARCGis, and other mapping skills
● Experience with climate action, risk and resilience assessment and planning
● Interest in working on a variety of topics related to sustainability.Strong oorganizational and task management skills.
● Interest and experience with facilitation and or training delivery.
● Excellent critical thinking skills, with the ability to think strategically.
● Ability to use AI appropriately in a consulting context.
● Ability to adapt to a changing environment and handle multiple priorities.
● Strong interpersonal and writing skills.
● Excellent verbal communications and active listening skills.
● Able to work independently and collaborate in person and remotely.
● Graphic design skills are not necessary, but would be considered an asset.
Qualifications
● Post-secondary degree (Masters preferred) in planning; engineering; resource and environmental management; Indigenous studies; sustainability; geography; health; communications; and/or expertise as relevant to the position.
● A minimum of 2 years of work experience, with preference for those who have worked in a consulting environment.
Work Conditions
The intern will work from a home office, and be required to travel to meet the team in Vancouver bi-weekly if they live in the Greater Vancouver area, and on occasion if not. The position is a 35 hour per week assignment, with an hourly rate of $32 / hour. The intern will be elegible for benefits after a 6 month probationary period.
